Note:  This is a limited-release “library edition”, published by Chivers Audiobooks, a subsidiary of AudioGO/BBC Audio — the differences between this and the usual BBC Audio releases are threefold: 1) The availability is much more limited, being made available for purchase only via the AudioGO Web site; 2) The discs are burned onto CD-Rs rather than being “regular” pressed CDs; 3) The discs come packaged in an oversized library “wallet”-style case, rather than the usual CD jewel box. This reflects the fact that the primary audience for these library editions are public libraries (however since they are technically available for purchase by the general public via AudioGO, hence why they qualify for inclusion on this site).

Cover blurb:
A moving and evocative story about a boy finding his place in the world, set against a backdrop of Bowie, Blackpool and Breville toasters

‘Sharp and beautifully nuanced’ SF Said, Guardian

It’s the 1980s and David has just started secondary school. He’s becoming a teenager, while hanging onto the rituals of childhood, particularly his addiction to Doctor Who: sharing the books with his best friend and neighbour, Robert, and watching the TV show.

But adolescence is as strange and alien to David as anything the good Doctor encountered, so he’s mystified when Robert begins to reject his hero in favour of girls, free weights and new music.

Is it time for David to make a choice and move on too?

Read by the author, this is a touching tale of fandom, friendship and the tricky transition from childhood to adulthood.
